Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. Here you will find different musings and descriptions of the various happenings in my life. Anything from political and religious opinions to fantastical writings that have absolutely nothing to do with anything important. Some days I may write about my educational adventures and others I may be writing about the rising price of gasoline, you just never know. So, if this is your cup of tea or if you are just looking for the entertainment of reading other people's thoughts, I welcome you and invite you to subscribe to my blog (look for the link in the sidebar). Thank you for your visit and please feel free to invite your friends!

Everything you needed to know about shadowchaser

Jack Corzine has written 148 post in this blog.

I'm a 49 year old Union Ironworker who has numerous interests. Currently I am close to receiving my AAS in Network Administration in Security and am seeking a career change over to the IT field. I love to cook, love my wife and family, and love to live life as fully as I am able to and I try to reflect that in my writings here. Hopefully you will be able to take something from what I place here and put it to good use. Please feel free to comment on anything you wish to here, tell your friends about this website and come back for me. May the Lord God bless and keep you.

Many of you know that I am one of the founders of a gaming community called the United Federation of Players. It has traditionally been a group of online gamers that enjoy First Person Shooters or FPS games. Our game of choice has been Novalogic’s Delta Force 2 (c. 1999) and other Novalogic games that came out in the same genre of entertainment. Unfortunately, due to a number of choices made by Novalogic, the gaming community that supported DF2 has diminished significantly from well over 2000 players at any one time per day (in it’s busiest period) to now around 75 players at a time per day. Some of this is due to the newer generation of FPS games with higher graphics and larger personnel abilities and some of it is the lack of support and juggling of servers that Novalogic has done in the last year or so. Novalogic refuses to market to it’s lower end game platforms and prefers to focus on the newer games that have come out in the last year or so, and who can blame them, after all they have to look at the bottom line (dollar wise that is).

So, where exactly does that leave UFP? Well let’s explore this just a bit shall we? As a gaming community we have not been doing extremely well. The largest factor of this is merely the inability to find a specific game that we can support our membership with. It’s not that we don’t play other games as much as we don’t seem to be able to provide the support that is desired in those other game platforms. It seems to me that in order for a gaming community, or clan or squad or whatever you wish to call yourself, to survive and prosper then you need to be able to focus on just a few different games that are popular with your membership. This is where we, as UFP, have fallen short. We all participate in other games, some like Diablo II, some like the fantasy sports games, others are into COD or other FPS games that have higher graphics and higher processing power. The major obstacle that I can see is a matter of non-communication on our experiences in these games. Hopefully we can overcome that obstacle in the near future and in doing so both entice our old membership back into the fold and invite new members to join as well.

This is where EVE Online comes into play.
EVE Online imageIn case you have not heard of it yet, EVE Online is a class of games called MMORPG (Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Game). This means that you play in a virtual world with literally thousands of different players at the same time. EVE is in the same classification as World of Warcraft (WOW), Everquest, and others as well. It is a massive world with countless opportunities to explore. For a review of EVE that is beyond the scope of this article please check out EVE Online – Review Background (part 1) and Part 2. Be aware, this is a VERY complex world with numerous obstacles to learn about and maneuver within. It will not be for the faint of heart but I believe it is a winner in all aspects of online gaming. There are combat elements as well as economic or trade elements. There’s even room for exploration and discovery elements as well once you have acquired the skills and expertise necessary. The graphics are spectacular and will keep you wondering just how they keep coming up with the ship and weapons designs. Overall, I think that this is a well put together package. There is a 14 day free trial, after which it will cost you $30 per month to continue. The initial download is LARGE and the footprint on your hard drive is quite a bit too, but IMHO it is quite worth the trial in order to decide if it is something you may enjoy. If enough of UFP likes this game we may expand into it officially and attempt to support each other in it. Who knows, maybe we could even start up our own EVE corporation!
