too hot, too quick
Now I know that there are some out there (my wife included) that live for those 80 degree plus days of our typical summer months in central Illinois. I’m just not one of them. Maybe it’s because I work out in the elements all of the time and have to face the blistering heat of working on a bridge deck or maybe the reflective surface of roof decking. Maybe it’s because of the aging effect of the sun on the body itself. Maybe it’s because of the pain of sunburn or the intense heat of the steel I-beams that I have to walk, sit or lay down on in order to bolt up the connections and other work that I do. Maybe it’s that or maybe I’m just “wired” differently than other people who enjoy this great heat (although I do notice the majority of them end up spending a large amount of time in an air conditioned environment during either the day or night).
It seems to me that the springs are becoming much shorter with periods of moderate weather being only a couple of weeks or so instead of what I used to remember taking a couple of months. The summer seems hotter and longer than previously as well and the fall weather is at best unpredictable. Our winter months are usually warmer than I remember them with less precipitation (this past winter was a notable exception as to the temperature though). Then again, maybe I’m just getting old and just want to remember those things that I wish to.
