Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. Here you will find different musings and descriptions of the various happenings in my life. Anything from political and religious opinions to fantastical writings that have absolutely nothing to do with anything important. Some days I may write about my educational adventures and others I may be writing about the rising price of gasoline, you just never know. So, if this is your cup of tea or if you are just looking for the entertainment of reading other people's thoughts, I welcome you and invite you to subscribe to my blog (look for the link in the sidebar). Thank you for your visit and please feel free to invite your friends!

Happenings summer 2008…

Where to begin? This summer has been quite a mixture of different experiences for me. I’ve been working a lot of overtime lately and been in charge of a couple of jobs this year which is somewhat different for me. I usually am just a member of the gang instead of being a foreman but this year I’ve experienced some added responsibility on the jobsite. I’ve also had the unfortunate experience of losing my dad on May 7th of this year. That is an experience that I don’t wish on anyone but it is one we all will have to face sometime in our lives. I’ve been blessed with great parents who always knew what was best for me even when I did not know or agree with their choices. My father taught me many things that I’ve taken with me into adulthood and I can only hope and pray that I’ve done half the job with my own kids that he did with me. Because of his death I’ve had to make two unexpected trips to Florida this year and my wife had to make a third in order to drive my mom back home. Anyone who truly knows me knows that I don’t like Florida at all and driving there under these conditions did not help me any in that department. I am determined to visit my mom as often as finances and time allows Jean and I to do so though, maybe in conjunction with another cruise in a couple of years. Who knows what may happen by then.

One of the few benefits of going to Florida (besides seeing my mom, sister and my little brother and his lovely wife) was being able to take some time on the return trip of the 2nd visit to look up some of our UFP brethren. We stopped by to see Cujo (Scott) and his family which we had been wanting to do for on numerous occasions. We also was able to stop in West Virginia and visit with Bodybag (Kevin) for a few days. Both of these were wonderful times and I have pictures here somewhere to post about it.

I have a new poll up concerning the annual UFP Fantasy Football League. This is primarily for UFP members but others are welcome in order to fill the slots (we’ll expand if needed). Please vote on the poll and either leave your contact information in the comment section of the poll or in a comment here so we can send out an invite. Until the next time I get to sit and write, take care and God bless….

Garden planning time….

It’s February in Illinois and time to get serious about planning a small garden in our backyard. Our area for this garden is quite small but I believe that with enough planning we can make the most of our space. Our space is about 10′ X 18′ beside the shed in the backyard. It gets around 10 hours of sunlight during the peak summer months. I’m planning on using newsprint for the mulch to help keep the weeds down this year. I’m also hoping to utilize some ideas from the sites listed below such as companion planting to maximize my garden space. I will also be using Google Sketch Up to plan my garden with.

Now to the various help sites:

Once you have perused the above listed sites please take the time to vote in my poll as to which you found to be most helpful. If you have any other suggestion please feel free to leave a comment and I may incorporate your suggestions into my next post on this subject.

A Useful Tool For Losing Weight

Some of you may already know that I’m a part of Spark People which is a site to facilitate people to lose weight and meet other personal goals. As such I’ve found myself trying to change my dietary habits and eat a healthier and more appropriate menu. This site I’ve listed below has many links t hat will help to explain methods of eating that will lead to weight loss but it does not simply stop there. It also tells you more than just the same old droll of calories and fat intake, it takes the time to explain why we eat in the way we do (stress factors, overeating, and other influences as well) so we can better understand and modify our eating habits. It also gives some alternatives and tools to help us to change our bad habits. If you are interested in losing weight I highly recommend both Spark People and the Managing Your Weight page. If you decide to join Spark People then please place me down as your referral as I get points for it. Points don’t really mean anything but it is always nice to get something for things that you do and tends to lend an aspect of “earning” something. Here’s the link to the Managing Your Weight page:
