Huge Blunder Made by Yours Truly!

My wife just announced to me how much of an idiot that I am as I forgot to mention one of the most life-changing events that has happened to us this year. It is something that she has personally been looking forward to for many years now and her prayers have been answered. Now before I let you in on this secret I will try to extend the suspense just a bit longer. This announcement is one that is having us do some preparations around the Corzine household in the form of getting both Jean and I more physically active and more fiscally responsible as well. We are now attending to our health better by joining and going to the Le Roy Replex (Jean gets a free family membership through her work benefit package thanks to the new negotiated contract). As such we are both hoping for better health and less weight in our foreseeable future. So what is this news that I did not divulge in my previous post this morning? Well I could tell you that I omitted it on purpose in order to devote an entire post to it, or possibly that I merely wanted to keep people in suspense while I droned on with some mindless drivel to keep people reading. Or maybe I just wanted to hear my wife complain as she tends to do when I don’t tell people right away about this earth-shattering news bulletin. But to do so would not be entirely true so I guess I had just better tell you all what this news is.
Jean and I are going to be grandparents! Yep, that’s right, no doubt about it…. Nikki and Tim are expecting with their first child who is expected to arrive around March 1, 2011. Stay tuned for further news about the pregnancy, the expectant parents and most notably the expectant Grandmama as it will be the most entertaining portion of this phenomenon (seeing how silly my wife will become during this time that is!). I’m certain I will pay for that last comment.
So without a doubt you will be hearing from Gramps about this soon enough…

Where has this year gone to? I can’t truly say that I’ve been too busy to write in my blog this year as I’ve been unemployed for a large portion of the year. The economy has not been very good at all lately (regardless of what the government sources wishes for you to believe) and as such I’ve been sitting on my duff at home doing next to nothing as far as work is concerned. There are a few projects scheduled for the last part of the 3rd quarter and the 4th quarter of 2010 but I’ve yet to see a benefit from these. Hopefully I can get on one of the wind projects that is coming up although it will mean working 6 days a week 10 hours a day which can make going to college challenging at best.
My son Mike is doing better since he came home from his accident (see related article The Accident (a revelation) Part Deux! below). He still has his numerous medical bills to pay and he is working on getting those paid off but he still has some medical issues that have not been addressed yet and they need to be. Please keep him in your prayers if you would. In the whole process of his accident Mike lost his license for 3 months due to Illinois‘ law about getting three moving violations before the age of 21 (his third violation was a few days before his 21st birthday). He has served his 3 month suspension of driving privileges (or should I say that we all have, his mother, myself, and his friends whom have been giving him rides that is!) and he now is able to drive again. Just in time too as he will be starting his schooling again this fall as well.
As far as school is concerned, I start my next round of classes on Aug. 16th. This semester I’m taking NETW 170 (Network Security Fundamentals) and DMED 210 (Advanced Web Page Design). They both look to be quite interesting to me and something that I’m sure to enjoy all semester. I did quite well on my Spring 2010 classes and even did well in my Algebra class (remember I hate Algebra). I’m still trying to find a full time job in the IT industry so if you happen to know of any openings (preferably in Central Illinois) please feel free to contact me on them. I’ve placed a few applications out there but so far I’ve not been chosen for those positions. I’m still hopeful though and if the economy is truly in a recovery I hope to be working in the computer industry relatively soon. Until then I will just keep chucking away at ironworking.
Well we have a busy weekend ahead of us so I’m going to let you go so I can get started on it. I hope to keep this blog more up to date in the future so please be certain to return often or if you are on facebook or twitter and have my information updates will be announced there.

Hello there. First of all I should probably preface this post as one that will possibly cause some trepidation in a few readers, some concern for my sanity in other readers, some outright discontent in still some of those whom read my drivel, and antipathy for my comments in still another sect of my readership. This is because I am going to be discussing my son Michael’s recent automobile accident. Now you need to understand a few things here, first of which is that I don’t usually proselytize about what some people would consider somewhat normal occurrences of sheer physics of a terrible crash. This crash though is not what I would consider to be normal. But I’m getting ahead of myself here. Let me back up a bit and discuss this from the beginning.
From what we’ve been able to determine our son Michael left work on Saturday morning (the 20th of February, 2010) in a normal manner in order to drive to Atlanta, IL and take care of his sisters, Nikki, house while they were in Ireland. You see, Michael had been house-sitting for his sister and her husband because they specifically needed someone to take care of their dog Chase so it gave our son an opportunity to get out of the house for a “mini-vacation” from the old curmudgeon (me) at home. Again though I digress and I respectfully request your indulgence as some of this background information may in time prove to be important (ok, probably not but it does allow me a chance to stretch out this post!). Anyway, to get back to the story at hand, Michael left work somewhere between 7:00 a.m. and 7:20 or so to head back to Atlanta for the day. Now, Michael being Michael (and all those who are familiar with my son will understand that statement), he decided to travel down the 2 lane highway sentimentally known as Old US-66. Old US-66 is a famous highway that was in heavy use back in the 50′s and 60′s as it was a major highway that ran from from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, before ending at Los Angeles. It has gone by many names such as “the Mother Road“, and “Main Street of America”. This road is so notorious it even has hit songs written about it. Anyway enough about the road, let’s get back to the story about Michael and the events that have transpired.
